This is the most popular one day trip from Manado to Minahasa Highlands to witness the beauty of Lake Linow and Lake Tondano. Manado is the biggest city in Northern Celebes. In his journal, Alfred Russel Wallace a British naturalist who visit Manado in 1859, he describe Manado as the most exotic place on Celebes Island. Spanish and Portuguese were the first came to this land on 15th century. Manado name was found by Portuguese sailor named Simao d’ Abreu. Manado is an important city for transit point of spices hunters and traders from Europe who were looking a spices in North Molucca during 17-18 century and first Indo Eurasian (Meztizo) communities in the archipelago since 16th century.

A guide and a comfortable vehicle will be provided for you. Firstly, take a village tour to see the traditional Minahasan house industry in Woloan village. Visit the sacred stone of nine Minahasan tribes. If there’s still time left, you have to stop at the Tekaantelu waterfall and visit Waruga Burial Complexes.

The heart of Minahasa is highlands with beautiful nature. There are several towns on this Highlands, one of the great districts to visit in Tomohon. On the way to Tomohon, you will visit in Woloan Village to see local houses made from local hardwood using traditional methods. Then, go to the top of Temboan hill where you will see the panoramic view of Minahasa highland. 

After an-hour drive beginning in Temboan, we arrive in Linow Lake. At this place, you will see various geothermal manifestations such as hot springs, fumarole, and also mud pool. Move to Tondano Lake, a site where the life cycle of important flora and fauna takes place, and water source that is used for agriculture, and domestic use. Tondano super volcano were explode in 2.5-2 million years ago where the area of explosion with size 20×30 square km, a half size of Yellowstone super volcano in US. More of geothermal activities in the crater area and the steam were used to be electric power. Continue to see the sacred large stone of nine Minahasa tribes known as Watu Pinawetengan. If there’s still time left, you will have a short visit to Tekaantelu waterfall and Waruga Burial Complexes, the burial stones of Minahasa native people in the past. Were build by stone in megalithic age (1500 years BC)

Lake Linow in Minahasa Highlands

Linow Lake also surrounded by forests and becomes a source of life for these creatures. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery around by taking pictures and relaxing at the grass around Linow Lake, a sulphur lake surrounded by forest and fumaroles complex located inside of Tondano caldera area.
