Legend says that the stone, which has the shape of a human in kneeling position, was a boy named Malin Kundang who turned into a stone after being cursed by his mother because he refused to acknowledge his old poor mother after he was married to a beautiful wife and become rich. After he was yelling at his mother, she cursed Malin Kundang he had turned into a stone.
